Notice of upcoming road works which may impact Udny
resident’s travel A948 / A90.
Please see attached map with regard to upcoming
work on the A90 and the planned closures on the A948. I wanted to clarify the
reasons why both elements of work are to be carried out at the same time.
With regard to the A948 closure at Balmacassie,
Brewdog have some large pieces of equipment being shipped in. It will be taken
from Peterhead harbour to Ellon on specific dates and a large crane will occupy
the A948 to install the equipment from Friday night on 23rd until early on
Monday 27th October and 31stOctober – 1st November. We had asked Brewdog if
this work could be done during the school holidays, but because it is tied in
with shipments, this was not possible. The diversion route via Balmacassie
Drive and Way is not ideal, but as the work is being carried out over weekends,
traffic volumes should not be significant.
With regard to the resurfacing work on the A90,
this is planned to start after completion of the A90 work between Ellon and
Tipperty to try and reduce disruption on the route. Again, we did discuss
delaying the work until after the Brewdog work was complete, but as winter is
approaching it is important to carry out resurfacing work before the road
surface temperatures reduce significantly, hence we agreed it was not practical
to delay. We have agreed that traffic may exit the A90 at the north roundabout
to reduce HGV traffic through the town centre, but it is not possible to
accommodate eastbound traffic.
We have taken this opportunity to include a section
of the road on the approach to the A90 from the park & ride roundabout in
the work, which is in our planned programme of work for 2020-21.
Further to this, work will be ongoing on the B9000
to carry out repairs to the road surface between Cloisterseat and Logierieve
from Monday 26th October for 10 days: Diversion route is via Ellon.
There will unavoidably be some inconvenience and,
no doubt, confusion hence the Ellon map to clarify what is happening, where and
