CONSULTATION - ABERDEENSHIRE COUNCIL’S SEXUAL ENTERTAINMENT VENUES POLICY
The Scottish Government has introduced legislation giving Councils a discretionary power to licence Sexual Entertainment Venues (SEVs) in their area. Aberdeenshire Council’s Licensing Sub-Committee passed a resolution in October 2019 to licence SEVs in Aberdeenshire. The Sub-Committee agreed that from Friday 4 December 2020 the powers would come into force and premises would require to be licensed in Aberdeenshire.
What is a Sexual Entertainment Venue?
A Sexual Entertainment Venue (SEV) is defined as any premises at which sexual entertainment is provided before a live audience, and the most common examples are lap dancing or strip clubs. However, the definition is sufficiently wide to cover other premises where sexual entertainment is provided. Premises where sexual entertainment is provided on no more than 4 occasions in a twelve-month period are not to be treated as a sex entertainment venue e.g. premises that cater for the occasional stag or hen do.
Why We Are Consulting?
The aim of the consultation is to gain a broader understanding of community views on the potential shaping of the licencing System for SEVs. This survey will allow individuals to have their input in the SEV Policy.
